ENG 491: Schedule of Assignments
READINGS HAVE NOT YET BEEN PLACED IN THE SCHEDULE: EXPECT THESE MOST WEEKS
This class will meet on Fridays. On weeks that you bring a draft in progress, you must bring two copies (unless otherwise directed in the schedule) and submit one to the instructor for accountability in doing the work as required. The final copy of that work for evaluation will be due on the following Wednesday, by 5:00 p.m. It is your responsibility to remember these requirements; “I forgot” is not an acceptable excuse and will not prevent me from applying grade reduction penalties for late work.
Week One
Friday, 30 August
We will go over the format of the course and answer any questions you have about the syllabus and course guidelines, as well as the Proposal assignment. You should be prepared to discuss the work you are doing, including what writer(s) you are considering discussing in your reflective essay.
Bring: Printouts of the Portfolio and Proposal assignments.
Week Two
Friday, 6 Sept
Bring: two copies of your Proposal draft for workshopping. You will submit one copy to the instructor at the end of the hour.
SUBMIT Proposal for evaluation by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 11 September.

Friday, 20 Sept

You will submit one to the instructor at the end of class.

SUBMIT First Complete Draft of Creative Work for evaluation by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, 23 October.
Do not request an extension on this assignment except under extremely dire circumstances, which would not include last-minute angst, writer’s block, and/or lack of motivation to work on a regular schedule, among other unacceptable excuses.
Week Nine
Friday, 25 Oct
First Complete Drafts will be returned in class today, and there will be opportunity for you to consider comments.
Bring: two copies of a draft of your Reflective Essay for workshopping. You will submit one copy to the instructor at the end of class.
You will, of course, need to add to this essay before submitting it with the portfolio, as you have thus far only experienced half of this semester. However, you should be able to have a good draft of sections about the writer(s) you have chosen to discuss and reflections on other instruction you have received.
SUBMIT First Complete Draft of Reflective Essay by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, 30 Oct.
Sign up for a required conference for next week.
